History and conservation

A story that It began decades ago

Punta Tombo is a Protected Natural Area with more than 50 years of continuous scientific research. Generations of scientists, conservationists, and institutions have worked to preserve this unique ecosystem, where every decision is based on evidence and data accumulated over decades.

The Province of Chubut placed this area under protection, assigned personnel from the Guardafaunas program, and, towards the end of the 1970s, began developing the first trails, conservation regulations, and structures to receive visitors without affecting the balance of the ecosystem.

Since then, Punta Tombo has become a key point for international scientific research, where conservation, knowledge and tourism coexist in balance.
